Hi,
I did hemo nightly for 18 months prior to my transplant. I would first talk to Dr. and verify if you only have to do it 3 x's a week. If so, great! if not, would have them work out financing. Talk to the Social worker at the clinic they should be able to help you. Good luck!

Hi Jim,
With a letter of medical necessity from your physician Medicare will allow and pay for up to 5 treatments per week. The clinic will simply have to follow through with the necessary paperwork and follow the guidelines. The key however could be in not how many treatments but how long. Even if you only get 4 treatments per week at home, they do *not* restrict the length of each treatment. One could easily do a longer, slower dialysis treatment of 8 hours and Medicare will pay for this so instead of getting 12 hours of cleaning in-center one could easily double this by extending each treatment to 8 hours. At 4 treatments per week you will be getting 32 hours of cleaning instead of just 12 hours. I guarantee you will feel better, especially if you can do it while you sleep. I've been doing this for over 11 years at home and wouldn't have it any other way at this point in my life. If you have more concerns/questions, just shout out. Blessings :)

The drugs make you susceptible to every germ and virus in the air--the whole idea is to destroy your body's defenses. The patient has to take on some considerable responsibility--keep up with their drugs, get regular follow-ups and blood tests, etc., and apparently this is a problem with some patients. And if the original kidneys were destroyed by diabetes, the new kidney may be also.

Unfortunately, at this time, there is no cure for PKD but, there is no evidence that polycystic kidney disease occurs in the transplanted kidney. ADPKD is inherited and the transplanted kidney would not contain the genetic adnormality. A new kidney would not cure diabetes and diabetes may eventually damage the new kidney just as it did the original kidney. For patients with diabetes, it is important to keep tight control of blood glucose. For more information on diabetes, visit the American Diabetes Association at .
